Experience Wins Out
Rich Manning Takes Home 2nd Conseutive
- Barrington, RI
The New England Series traveled down South to one of the membership's favorite stops, Rhode Island Country Club. The day started with a significant amount of fog early on, but as the temperatures rose, the sun started to peak its way through and bring out the sun and higher temps. The course is perched just off the Providence River, providing the New England Series members & guests astonishing views of Narragansett Bay as they play the final 4 holes. This old time Donald Ross New England style course is sure to give you a nice trip to the past and experience golf in its truest form.
This year, yet again, Rich Manning made the trip down to Rhode Island, and he did not disappoint. As the winner of the event in 2017, Manning was looking to follow it up again this year, and make it back-to-back W's. His course knowledge was apparent, as he started stronger than last year trip, avoiding early bogeys and turning at -1 (35). He followed with another 35 (E) on the back, for his total 1-under 70. The strong showing was enough to secure that back-to-back finish he sought after, taking the Men's Overall Gross title. Nipping at his heels throughout the day was new New England Series member Tai Lee, who came out guns blazing and fired a 2-over 73. He was neck and neck with Manning's round, but late slip ups paved the way for a repeat winner at RICC.
Thank you to the entire Rhode Island Country Club staff and Head Professional, Kyle Phelps, PGA for a fantastic day in the short grass. Another thank you to Turkish Airlines for their partnership with the New England Series again this season! The next event is Monday, May 14th at Worcester Country Club.
Good Day to be Goodridge
Mark Goodridge Winner in Ipswich
- Ipswich, MA
Turner Hill Golf Club provided a wonderful day for the New England Series members that played. The crisp sixty degrees remained consistent throughout the day, and provided the ultimate day out on the golf course. Just over forty players teed it up at the past NEPGA Section Championship host site. The mansion at Turner Hill provided an unforgettable experience for those that played, and many commented on just how great the finishing holes of 17 & 18 were as they made their way towards the clubhouse. The course was in mid-season form, and was quite a challenge for the players, especially on and around the greens.
A noteworthy round for Mark Goodridge, who shot the low round of the day, 75 (+3). He had four birdies on his front nine, a couple of which came on the hardest two holes on the golf course. On holes 2 & 15, Goodridge carded the lone birdies for the day. A tough finish on holes 17 & 18 prevented Goodridge from keeping his round at even par, but nonetheless he came away as the Overall Gross Champion for the day. Following close behind Goodridge were both Henry Arundale and Michael Reily, who each carded a 77 (+5). Seamus O'Neill took the Men's Overall Net Title with his Gross 79 (+7)/Net 69 (-3).
Thank you to the entire Turner Hill staff and Director of Golf, Nate Hopley, PGA for a terrific day at the golf course. Another thank you to Turkish Airlines for their continued support of the New England Series this season. The next New England Series event is tomorrow May 8th at Rhode Island Country Club.

Bradd Pearsons Takes Home 1st Event This Season
We couldn't have asked for a better day to start the season off on the right foot. TPC Boston welcomed a mammoth field of 104 players for a great experience at a Tour quality facility. After a rough few early Spring months, the course pulled through and was in outstanding shape. With the course set up on the short side, conditions were certainly on the scoreable side.
An outstanding start to the season for Bradd Pearsons, firing a 70 (-2), highlighted by his 34 (-2) on the front side. He followed up with a solid even par back nine, allowing him to take home 1st place. Only posting 2 bogeys his entire round displaying true composure after each one with solid pars to follow them. He played the Tournament Players Club course like a pro himself, and brought home his first Men's Overall Gross Title. Biting at Pearsons' ankles all day were both Rich Manning (-1) and Mike Higgins (E), but Pearsons' great front-9 proved to be the difference. Wayne Dennison pulled in the Men's Overall Net Title for the day with his gross round of 81 (+9), and 67 (-5) net, an excellent start to his 2018 season. David Holmes took home another Senior Men's Gross Title, carrying through his 2017 play to the new season. His great round of 74 (+2) led the way in the Senior Division, and was 5th overall for the event.
Thank you to the entire TPC Boston Staff and Head Professional, Mark Nowoielski, PGA for a marvelous day. Another thank you to Turkish Airlines for being a partner with the New England Series yet again this season! The next New England Series event is Monday, April 30th at Pocasset GC.
