Kroisi Captures Kernwood
Nik Kroisi Leads the Way
Back by popular demand, Kernwood Country Club returned to the New England Series schedule for the 2017 season. The Donald Ross designed par-70 layout features a bevy of fantastic holes, a few which dawn fantastic views of the coastside. With a slope of 130, players knew coming in they had a tough track laid out in front of them.
However, Nik Kroisi apparently did not see the task as all that hard. His round of 74 left him T-1st for the day, and became the winning score after a card-off officially gave him the Low Gross title for the day. Right out of the gate, Kroisi converted birdie on the first hole, a short par 5. After his birdie, a few bogeys on his way to the turn left him +2 (37). Playing in the same group as David Holmes, runner-up for the day, Kroisi knew how well he'd have to play in order to win. Holmes equally turned at +2, and it was anyone's game from there. Battling back and forth, Kroisi made back to back birdies on 15 & 16 that ultimately put him to the top of the pack. Holmes himself added a birdie on 13 and played solid throughout to card his 74 (+4).
In the Net Division, Seamus O'Neill played outstanding. Beating his given handicap by 4 shots and turning in Net 66 (-4). Birdies on 2, 9, 11 & 13 were impressive to say the least, and helped guide him to the top of the pack. His Gross round of 75 finished just one shot back of first for the day itself!
Thank you to the entire Kernwood Country Club staff and Head Professional, Frank Dully, PGA for hosting. Another thank you to Turkish Airlines & Lincoln Motorcars for their partnership with the New England Series and their on-site visits. Our next New England Series event is Monday, October 16th @ Eastward Ho! CC.
Putnam/Mitchell Win at Pocasset
4-Ball Tournament Results
The lone Four-Ball event on the New England Series schedule was the first of its kind, and a cool switch up for New England Series members to get in some team format golf. With 12 teams in attendance, one Gross team & one Net team would come out on top. Both the teams of Craig Putnam/Jim Mitchell & Tom Andrews/Peter Bilzerian walked away with some hardware.
In the Gross Division, the team of Putnam/Mitchell were victorious with their Even Par 72. Feeding off each other nicely, they made par as a team on each of the first eight holes before slipping up as they made they made the turn with a bogey on the par-5 9th. At 1-over par on their first nine, they knew they would be in the hunt, but it wouldnt be enough if they didn't drop a shot or two. Their birdie on 13 did just that, and they were able to par their way in finishing up Even for the day.
In the Net Division, the team of Andrews/Bilzerian played fantastic and shot a Net-65 (-7) on the day. They were both able to make a deuce on the par-3 3rd hole, and used that to springboard them into action for the rest of the day. Andrews himself made another deuce on the par-3 12th hole that was playing at 135 yards. Bilzerian matched with a birdie of his own on the par-5 17th, a great way to begin to close off their round.
Thank you to the entire Pocasset Golf Club staff and Head Professional Jeff Halunen, PGA, for hosted such a great day. An additional thank you to Turkish Airlines for being a continued partner of the New England Series. The next New England Series event will be on Wednesday, September 27th at Wentworth by the Sea Country Club.
Drive For Five
Holmes Captures Number Five, Third Straight
It has been impressive to say the least. On an amateur tour that can see anyone have a good day, and anyone have a bad day, David Holmes' level of consistency has gone unmatched. For the third straight event, and fifth time this season, Holmes' strong play led him to a Men's Individual title. After another round of Even-par (71), Holmes had a humble reaction to his play. "Well you know, I made some shots, missed a few others, and just managed to keep it in front of me the whole day", Holmes said. He certainly was able to do so yet again.
Holmes did have some great competition behind him, as Mark Goodridge finished four shots back at 75 (+4), and Tim Flynn finished just behind that with a 76 (+5). Flynn has consistently finished near the top all season, and continuously works hard to track down Holmes.
In the Net division, Mark Goodridge's round was up to par, as he turned in Net-71 (E) for a one-shot win on the day. Right behind him finishing in second was Jeff Mack with a Net-72 (+1). In the Net-Stableford, Jay Stockwell finished up with 39 points on the day and took home 1st place.
On the New England Series' first visit to Nashua Country Club, the entire membership was impressed by the true hidden gem they had never been to previously. Many noted how pleased they were with the course condition, and hope to have it back on tour for the 2018 season.
Thank you to the entire Nashua Country Club staff and Head Professional, Justin Lawson, PGA, for a perfect day. Thank you also to our partner Turkish Airlines for their continued support all season long! Our next New England Series event is on Monday, September 18th at Pocasset Golf Club for our Four-Ball event.
